Teaching Through the Learner's Generative Language: An Inquiry into Knowledge Formation

Educational inquiry develops within historically formed capacities for perceiving, interpreting, questioning, and acting. This paper examines a pedagogical relation in which a teacher offers a question, form, practice, or material possibility that a learner can develop through an evolving repertoire of resources and activities. Drawing on pragmatist education, sociocultural development, critical pedagogy, intellectual emancipation, situated learning, transactional reading, and culturally situated design, the paper proposes generative invitation as a comparative concept for studying educational offerings and learner-directed knowledge formation. A learner’s generative language refers to historically situated linguistic, representational, embodied, practical, and relational resources through which inquiry becomes possible. The analysis separates the conditions of a pedagogical offering, its actual uptake, and subsequent outcomes, including immediate achievement, expanded participation, durable investigative capacities, and collective transformation. It examines how these outcomes relate to educational guidance, epistemic justification, cultural interpretation, and the distribution of authority over resulting knowledge. A shared constructed case is analyzed through productive disciplinary engagement, its power-sensitive extension, knowledge building, and the proposed sequence of offering, uptake, transformation, and continuation. The framework is a revisable comparative perspective whose explanatory economy and practical discrimination remain open to empirical assessment.
