The Effectiveness of a Cognitive Apprenticeship-Based Instructional Model in Developing Creative Thinking in Mathematics among Fifth-Grade Students in Jordan

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a cognitive apprenticeship-based instructional model in developing creative thinking in mathematics among fifth-grade students in Jordan. The study sample consisted of 51 male and female students enrolled in the national program at the fifth-grade level. The participants were purposefully selected from a public school affiliated with the Second Zarqa Directorate of the Jordanian Ministry of Education. The classrooms were randomly assigned into two groups: an experimental group (n = 26), which was taught using the cognitive apprenticeship model, and a control group (n = 25), which was taught using conventional methods. The study adopted a quasi-experimental design. To achieve the study’s objectives, a Creative Thinking Scale was developed, and its validity and reliability were confirmed. The results revealed that teaching based on the cognitive apprenticeship model significantly enhanced the students’ creative thinking in mathematics.
