The article examines the problem of the development of foreign language education in Ukraine in the conditions of European integration. The relevance of the study stems from the need to modernize the national education system in accordance with European guidelines and to strengthen the role of foreign languages in professional training, academic mobility, intercultural interaction, and lifelong learning. The purpose of the article is to determine the features and leading trends in the development of foreign language education in Ukraine in the conditions of European integration. In the course of the research, theoretical methods were used: analysis of scientific literature and normative and conceptual documents, comparative and pedagogical analyses, systematization, and generalization. It was found that foreign language education in modern conditions should be considered not only as the acquisition of language knowledge but also as a holistic process of forming foreign-language communicative, intercultural, sociocultural, and educational and cognitive competencies. It was determined that its development is associated with the transition from a knowledge-based to a competency-based paradigm, strengthening the communicative orientation of learning, the orientation to the Pan-European Recommendations on Language Education, the implementation of the principles of multilingualism, the use of digital technologies, and subject-language integrated learning. It was emphasized that an important condition for the effective modernization of foreign language education is the preparation of teachers to work in a multilingual, digital, and intercultural educational environment. It is substantiated that foreign language education contributes to the formation of a competitive, mobile, culturally open personality capable of self-realization in the European educational and professional space. The practical significance of the study lies in identifying areas for updating the content and methodology of foreign language teaching. Prospects for further research lie in the study of effective models for developing foreign language competence in applicants.
