Erdheim-Chester Disease Mimicking Multiple Meningiomas: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) is a rare histiocytic neoplasm that can involve the central nervous system (CNS).We report the case of a 47-year-old woman referred with a presumptive diagnosis of multiple meningiomas.Histopathological examination showed a foamy histiocytic infiltrate in a background of extensive fibrosis.Immunohistochemistry showed patchy B-raf proto-oncogene, serine/threonine kinase (BRAF) positivity, a finding consistent with ECD; molecular testing on the Idylla platform (Biocartis, Mechelen, Belgium) subsequently detected the BRAF V600E mutation.
