Pengaruh Kebiasaan Membaca Terhadap Kemampuan Menulis

Writing ability is one of the essential language skills in both academic and social life. However, this ability does not develop instantaneously, as it requires linguistic knowledge, broad insight, the ability to organize ideas, and continuous practice. One habit suspected to have a strong relationship with writing ability is the reading habit. This article aims to describe the influence of reading habits on students' writing skills and to explain the factors that strengthen or inhibit this influence. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method using a literature review approach. Data were obtained from books, journal articles, research reports, and academic sources relevant to reading literacy and writing skills. The analysis was conducted through the stages of identification, classification, interpretation, and synthesis. The results of the study indicate that reading habits influence writing ability through at least five pathways: enriching vocabulary, broadening knowledge and references, introducing diverse text structures, increasing sensitivity to language usage, and providing models for the development of ideas and writing styles. This influence becomes stronger when reading activities are carried out regularly, critically, and variedly, followed by writing activities. Therefore, cultivating reading habits needs to be positioned as an integrated part of writing instruction rather than as a separate activity. Schools, teachers, families, and students need to build a literacy ecosystem that provides quality reading materials, sufficient reading time, and meaningful, sustainable writing tasks.
