El retablo de Monserrate de Lima: imagen y racialidad mariana
This article presents the previously unknown discovery of the contract for the original altarpiece of the Church of Monserrate in Lima, contributing to a deeper understanding of the building’s original appearance in the seventeenth century. The structure of the altarpiece invites a reconsideration of existing hypotheses regarding its connection to a painting of the Virgin of Monserrate, whose artistic features reveal a whitening process that altered her authentic representations within the context of the Peruvian viceroyalty.
