Qualidade de vida e fatores associados em pessoas com sequelas de poliomielite: uma revisão de literatura não sistemática
Poliomyelitis is an infectious disease that can cause permanent neuromuscular sequelae and significantly affect the functionality and quality of life of affected individuals. Even after the reduction in global incidence resulting from vaccination programs, thousands of survivors continue to live with physical, social, and emotional limitations. The objective of this study was to analyze quality of life and associated factors among individuals with poliomyelitis sequelae through a non-systematic literature review. The search was conducted in national and international scientific databases, considering studies published between 2005 and 2026. The results demonstrated that chronic pain, fatigue, reduced functional capacity, post-polio syndrome, environmental barriers, and psychosocial factors are directly associated with poorer quality of life. Conversely, rehabilitation strategies and social support showed a positive impact on functionality and well-being. It is concluded that comprehensive and interdisciplinary care is essential to promote better outcomes in this population.
