Propaganda Politik dalam Novel Zabibah wal Malk Karya Saddam Hussein Perspektif Sosiologi Sastra Ian Wat

This study aims to analyze the novel Zabibah Wal Malk as a means of resistance to oppression and colonialism and to examine the representation of political propaganda within its narrative. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a literature review approach, drawing on Ian Watt’s sociology of literature, particularly the social function of literature grounded in socialist realism. The primary data consist of words, phrases, sentences, and dialogues representing resistance and political propaganda in the novel Zabibah Wal Malk by Saddam Hussein. Secondary data are obtained from books, journal articles, and other scholarly publications relevant to the research topic and theoretical framework. Data were collected through documentation, close reading, and note-taking. Data analysis involved identifying relevant textual excerpts, classifying them according to forms of resistance and representations of political propaganda, interpreting them using Ian Watt’s concept of the social function of literature, and drawing conclusions. The findings show that the novel presents political propaganda as a means of resisting colonialism through struggles against oppression and foreign domination, mobilization against internal betrayal, the establishment of a government free from foreign influence, and the preservation of national values. Political propaganda is also represented through the construction of leadership images, the dissemination of nationalist ideology, and criticism of foreign influence. These findings demonstrate how literary narratives can function as instruments of political propaganda and as a means of reinforcing nationalism through characters, narratives, and ideological values.
