AI-Driven Automation for Health Facility Surveillance and Documentation Compliance: A Case Study of Daily Record Upload Monitoring Across Nigerian Health Facilities

Health facility documentation compliance is a perennial challenge in our public and private health facilities in Nigeria.Timely complete reporting is important for disease surveillance, for informing health planning and the most effective use of health resources, and for policy making at the national level.Non availability of complete, up-to-date and missing routine incidence data can have a major impact on public health. This paper thus presents a low-cost innovative Artificial Intelligence system for real time monitoring, enforcement and tracking of the upload of health facility's daily report to a central server using a low-cost technology that comprises of a Telegram bot as the user interface and a no-code workflow automation platform n8n, PostgreSQL database and Google Drive. The facility is completed with state level location, session-based user authentication, file validation, automatic upload of documentation and real time confirmation of successful upload.A case study of 96 health facilities in several states of Nigeria confirmed real time compliance of health facility's documentation up to 99% within 24 hours of implementation. These findings confirm that low-cost mobile friendly automation technology can be effective in improving health facility documentation in low resources settings.
