The Level of Life Skills among Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder in Special Education Centers in Amman

The present study aimed to explore the level of life skills among adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) enrolled in special education centers in Amman. To achieve the goal of this study, the researchers developed a Life Skills Scale consisting of (75) items distributed across five sub-dimensions. The psychometric properties of the scale were examined. The study population consisted of (456) adults diagnosed with ASD, while the study sample included (145) adults officially registered in special education centers in Amman. The findings indicated that the overall level of life skills was moderate. Among the sub-dimensions, “self-care” ranked the highest, while “self-awareness” ranked the lowest. Statistically significant differences were found in life skills based on age, favoring individuals aged (24 years and above), and based on severity of the disorder, favoring individuals with mild ASD. Based on these findings, the researchers recommended the development and implementation of structured training programs aimed at enhancing life skills among adults with ASD.
