The Relationship Between Internet and Smoke Addiction and Depression Levels in Individuals During Emerging Adulthood: A Cross-Sectional Study
It was designed to examine the effects of internet use and cigarette addiction on depression levels in individuals emerging adulthood. The Young Internet Addiction Test-Short Form (YIAT-SF) was used to assess individuals' levels of addiction to internet. The Smoking Psychological Dependence Assessment Scale (SPDAS) was used to assess levels of psychological dependence on cigarettes. TheBeck DepressionInventory (BDI) was used to assess depression levels. A total of 193 participants were included, with mean scores of YIAT-Sf=28.53 ± 8.33, SPDAS=13.82 ± 9.42, and BDI=31.31±12.00.There was a moderately positive correlation between BDI and YIAT-Sf (r=0.352, p<.001) and a weakly positive correlation between SPDAS and BDI (r=0.266, p < .001). There was a weak but statistically significant positive correlation between YIAT-Sf and SPDAS (r=0.194, p=0.007). Simple linear regression analysis showed a significant relationship between BDI and YIAT-Sf in Model 1 (F=26.928, p < .001) and between BDI and SPDAS in Model 2 (F=14.513, p<.001).Model 4's multiple regression analysis revealed a significant relationship among BDI, YIAT-Sf, and SPDAS (F=18.658, p<.001). A moderate positive correlation was found between internet addiction and depression levels, and a weak positive correlation was found between smoking addiction levels and depression levels. It was found that internet addiction and smoking addiction are associated with depression levels in individuals Emerging Adulthood.
