IoT and AI Powered Intelligent Classroom Management System with Face-Recognition Attendance, Parent SMS Alerts, Staff Scheduling and Occupancy-Based Energy Saving

Classrooms in educational institutions still depend on manual attendance registers, manual communication with parents, memory-based timetable tracking by staff, and manual switching of lights and air conditioners. These practices consume teaching time, delay information to parents, cause late arrivals of staff to the next class, and waste electrical energy when rooms are empty. This project proposes an IoT and AI powered Intelligent Classroom Management System that integrates four automated functions on a single platform. The first function is student face-recognition attendance. When the Blue Button is pressed, the camera captures the student’s face, an AI face-recognition model identifies the student, attendance is marked, and the present count is displayed on an LCD. The second function is automated parent SMS dispatch. Attendance of each class hour is evaluated, a Yellow LED indicates that the SMS dispatch process is active, and the message sent for each class hour is recorded in a serial log. The third function is a staff next-hour schedule and alert system. When the Green Button is pressed, the next-hour class of the staff member is displayed, and a Red LED with a buzzer alerts the staff when the next class is about to begin. The fourth function is occupancy-based energy saving control. A DHT22 sensor measures temperature and humidity, the occupancy of the room is obtained from the attendance count, and a light relay and an AC relay switch the lights and the air conditioner automatically. The system is built around a microcontroller (ESP32) with a Python-based face-recognition layer, and its operation is verified through simulation and prototype-level testing. The proposed solution aims to reduce attendance time, give parents timely information, improve staff punctuality and reduce classroom energy wastage, and it is modular and low-cost enough to be extended to every classroom of an institution. Abstract
