Effect of temperature on the wickability of silver nano-treated cotton/linen blended fabric

Purpose A high degree of fabric wickability can be a limiting factor in the design of outdoor sportswear and specific industrial applications. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of silver nanoparticles in reducing the wicking ability of treated fabrics. Design/methodology/approach The wicking properties of cotton and linen blended fabrics with silver nano finish were evaluated using standard test procedures. The evaluation of wicking was conducted at three different temperatures (30°C, 80°C and 100°C) to understand the specific differences in wicking between treated and control samples. Findings This study confirms that the wickability of cotton/linen blended fabric treated with nanoparticles is lower than that of the control fabric. Research limitations/implications This research highlights the fabric wicking behavior under variations in temperature, which can inform the design of advanced textiles for sports, outdoor apparel and industrial applications, thereby contributing to improved material performance and comfort in demanding environments. Social implications This innovation has a profound impact on society, increasing accessibility to advanced textiles, reducing health risks and enhancing comfort. Originality/value The originality of this study lies in the analysis of the wicking behavior of nano-finished fabrics under different temperatures characteristic of typical outdoor applications. This approach helps in improving fabric selection based on the desired wickability for end applications.
