Local Roots, Global Reach: From the Swiss Brain Health Plan to the International Alliance on Brain Health
Brain diseases, including both neurological and mental illnesses, account for one of the biggest and fastest growing health problems around the globe and policy and practice efforts have been rather disjointed, not only among neurology, psychiatry and public health but also across different geographical and economic contexts (Bassetti et al., 2026). The Swiss Brain Health Plan 2023 - 2033 was implemented in an effort to remedy the lack of coordination (Bassetti et al., 2023). Based on this experience, the Swiss Brain Health Foundation facilitated the application of the national concept via a three-tiered cooperation framework consisting of the Foundation, thematic working groups and the International Alliance on Brain Health (IABH) that was set up internationally in Bern in 2025 (Bassetti et al., 2026).
