Optimal Placement of PV-Based Distributed Generation and EV Charging Infrastructure in IEEE 33-Bus Distribution Networks Using Superb Fairy-Wren Optimization
Electric vehicles (EVs) and Renewable Energy Systems (RESs) are increasingly growing in popularity, and this requires the application of advanced planning methods for ensuring their optimal integration into modern power distribution networks. This paper outlines a high-level optimization technique for optimal EV charging infrastructure placement and PV-based Distributed Generation (DG) in IEEE 33-bus Radial Distribution Systems (RDS). Proposed approach utilizes the Superb Fairy-Wren Optimization (SFWO) algorithm, nature-inspired metaheuristic widely recognized due to its high resistance against local optima and high convergence speed along with good exploration and exploitation balance. Concurrently the optimization aims for enhanced hosting capacity for PV-based DG units and EV charging stations enhanced voltage profile stability and minimized overall active power losses. The SFWO algorithm optimizes the PV-DG and EV charging node size and location subject to network operational constraints under a deterministic load operating scenario. The reliability measures are employed to comprehensively analyse system performance under a variety of operational conditions. The SFWO-based planning method proposed in this work achieves superior loss minimization and voltage profile improvement compared with benchmark metaheuristic algorithms. The proposed work uses a deterministic load-flow model to assess best locations for PV-DG and EV-CS.
