Current methods of term formation in English-language aviation meteorology

The purpose of the study is to provide a comprehensive linguistic description of current methods of term formation and productive models of specialized vocabulary in aviation meteorology in modern English. The scientific novelty lies in being the first study to examine the terminology of aviation meteorology from derivational and functional perspectives. The work identifies connections and correlations between general principles and patterns of affixation and compounding in English, the language’s derivational resources, and the specific features of term formation within the framework of functional terminological derivatology. The study identifies the mechanisms involved in structuring terminological vocabulary and examines the role of borrowings, metaphorical and metonymic term formation, and parts-of-speech characteristics in the development of established terminological combinations. The article demonstrates that English-language texts on aviation meteorology are characterized by dynamism driven by the emergence of new technologies, highlighting the need for in-depth study of new developments in the field. Representing the cognitive-semiotic mechanism of term formation makes it possible not only to characterize human thought and its products, but also to systematize English specialized aviation meteorology vocabulary for educational purposes.
