Keterkaitan Xerostomia dengan Kondisi Medis Diabetes Melitus tipe 2 dan Kecurigaan Hipertensi: Laporan Kasus

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic systemic disease that may be accompanied by oral manifestations, including xerostomia. Hypertension is also associated with changes in salivary gland function; however, in the present patient, hypertension was only clinically suspected and had not been formally confirmed This case report discusses a comprehensive approach to xerostomia in the medical conditions of type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension. A 58-year-old male patient came with complaints of bad breath, dirty and rough teeth, and a dry mouth. The patient has a history of diabetes mellitus since 2 years ago, controlled regularly by taking janumet (a combination antidiabetic drug sitagliptin and metformin). The diagnosis in this case was Hyposalivation / Xerostomia et Causa Diabetes Mellitus. Laboratory tests were performed to assess the patient's medical condition. Scaling and administration of xerostomia medication in the form of GC dry mouth gel 3x1, followed by a follow-up visit one week post-procedure. Xerostomia in patients with diabetes mellitus and hypertension is multifactorial, influenced by metabolic disorders, vascular changes, and the effects of pharmacological therapy. Early detection and comprehensive dental management, accompanied by interdisciplinary collaboration and optimal systemic disease control, play a crucial role in improving oral health and achieving successful treatment.
