Features of translating French banking terminology into Russian

The article examines the peculiarities of translating French banking terminology into Russian in the context of expanding transnational financial communication, increasingly complex banking and legal documentation, and growing demands for accuracy in specialized translation. The purpose of the study is to determine which translation solutions ensure the most accurate and communicatively justified rendering of French banking terms into Russian under conditions of intersystem asymmetry. The scientific novelty of the paper lies in the systematization of typical difficulties in translating French banking terminology with regard to lexical-semantic, structural, genre, and pragmatic factors, as well as in clarifying the criteria for choosing between equivalent translation, calquing, transcription, descriptive translation, and functional analogue in French-Russian banking translation. The obtained results showed that the main translation difficulties are caused by intersystem conceptual asymmetry, terminological polysemy, false internationalisms, the structural complexity of multicomponent nominations, and the dependence of translation choices on the genre of the banking text.
