Proven Chain: Frey Curve to Modularity Lifting in the Langlands Program — E8 Intelligence Research
FINDING: The Langlands program's arithmetic side is now a proven chain — Frey curve → Galois representation → Serre conjecture → level lowering → modularity lifting — establishing that elliptic curves over Q are modular and that residual Galois representations with small image are automorphic. | MATH: Frey curve E: y² = x(x−a)(x+b), abc-triple with a+b=c, discriminant Δ = 16(abc)², conductor N = rad(abc) (squarefree); Frey–Hellegouarch construction maps a hypothetical Fermat solution aⁿ+bⁿ=cⁿ to a semistable elliptic curve whose mod-p Galois representation ρ̄: G_Q → GL₂(F_p) is unramified outside 2p and flat at p. Serre's conjecture (now theorem, Khare–Wintenberger): every odd, absolutely irreducible, continuous ρ̄: G_Q → GL₂(F̄_p) arises from a modular form of weight k(ρ̄) and level N(ρ̄) determined by local inertia/ramification data. Level lowering (Ribet): if ρ̄ is modular of level N and ρ̄ is unramified at ℓ with ℓ ∥ N, then ρ̄ is modular of level N/ℓ.
