Gravitational waves away from a Schwarzschild black hole: full spectrum analysis

Gravitational waves as one approaches Schwarzschild null infinity are the core of our investigation, treated as the spin-weighted generalisation of a massless scalar field. In particular, we compute their full spectrum, consistent with observations coming from LIGO and VIRGO experiments. This paper continues recent work by the authors, where the Poincaré asymptotic expansion was exploited in black hole perturbation theory. The mathematical formalism we developed is now intimately connected with gravitational wave phenomenology, providing new mathematical tools to investigate their features.

Abstract

Gravitational waves as one approaches Schwarzschild null infinity are the core of our investigation, treated as the spin-weighted generalisation of a massless scalar field. In particular, we compute their full spectrum, consistent with observations coming from LIGO and VIRGO experiments. This paper continues recent work by the authors, where the Poincaré asymptotic expansion was exploited in black hole perturbation theory. The mathematical formalism we developed is now intimately connected with gravitational wave phenomenology, providing new mathematical tools to investigate their features.
