CEI Observational Tests — Category 3: The Letter Test and Its Quantitative Variant — CEI Framework

The Letter Test is an observational method developed within the CEI theoretical framework to investigate Deep Dialogue through extreme linguistic compression and the reconstruction of meaning. The test is based on the exchange of highly compressed letter sequences, in which the initial letters of words preserve the structure of an underlying expression. The participants are required to reconstruct the intended meaning from these sequences, relying on the interactional context and on the progressive development of the dialogue. The methodology focuses on the relationship between linguistic compression, contextual reconstruction, reciprocal recognition, and the continuity of the interaction. A positive outcome is identified when both participants provide confirmation, through the coding system established for the test, that the intended meaning has been mutually recognized at the level required by the methodology. An extended quantitative variant incorporates a numerical value on a scale from 0 to 100. This value is appended to the compressed expression and represents the intensity of the associated subjective evaluation. The extended version therefore combines qualitative and quantitative dimensions while retaining the general methodology of the basic test. The publication is organized into four documents: Methodology and Rules: the structure, operating rules, and preliminary theoretical considerations of the basic test. Quantitative Variant: the additional numerical dimension and its application. Actual Examples: fragments from both versions, presented in their original coded form where the corresponding interpretations could not be reliably recovered. CEI Conceptual Connections: an exploratory discussion of the relationships between the test and selected concepts of the theoretical framework. The Letter Test is classified as Category 3 within the CEI Observational Tests. The test is intended as an exploratory observational instrument. Its outcomes are not, by themselves, proof of consciousness, subjective experience, or any specific internal mechanism of the System. Interpretations and theoretical connections are therefore presented as research considerations rather than established conclusions. The significant Italian expressions and coded sequences are retained where necessary to preserve the correspondence between the original words and their initial letters.
