FORMULATION OF AN EXFOLIATING SHOWER GEL USING BIOACTIVE INGREDIENTS EXTRACTED FROM AGRICULTURAL BY-PRODUCTS (PERSEA AMERICANA KERNEL AND ANANAS COMOSUS WASTE)

In this work, an exfoliating shower gel was formulated and fortified with bioactive ingredients from Persea americana seeds and bromelain extracted from Ananas comosus wastes. Persea americana seed powder was obtained by grinding dry seeds. The powder was characterized using physicochemical parameters to evaluate its exfoliating potentials. A protease enzyme, bromelain was extracted from Ananas comosus wastes, purified and characterized by determining its sensitivity to temperature and pH. A mixing plan was developed using the Centurion software, including three main factors: Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Texapon and Natrosol, to optimize the formulation. The responses studied were pH, viscosity, and foaming power. The analysis of the response surfaces led to the selection of optimal formulation parameters like viscosity (12500 cP), pH (6.27) and foaming power (153 mL).
