Design and Implementation of a Secure Book Catalog Management Web Application Using ASP.NET Core MVC, SQLite, and Docker CI/CD
This paper presents the design and implementation of a lightweight, security-conscious book catalog management web application built with ASP.NET Core MVC 10, Entity Framework Core, and an embedded SQLite database. The system adopts a clean layered architecture in which a repository pattern abstracts all data access, ASP.NET Core Identity provides authentication together with role-based access control, and two global MVC action filters capture an append-only audit trail and page-view analytics without blocking the request path. A bounded in-memory channel combined with a hosted background writer decouples audit persistence from user requests, while a sliding in-memory cache and SQLite write-ahead logging improve read and write throughput. The application exposes a JSON REST API, theme-aware dashboards rendered with Chart.js, and PDF/Excel report export, and is packaged as a non-root Docker image with an automated build, smoke-test, and publish pipeline. We discuss the architectural decisions, the security posture, and the deployment trade-offs, and outline how a serverless embedded database simplifies operations for small-to-medium catalog workloads.
