Os resultados da laserterapia no tratamento de mucosite oral em pacientes oncológicos - Revisão de literatura
Objective: To analyze the accessibility, integration, and the most appropriate protocol for the use of low-level laser therapy in the oral cavity of oncology patients, as well as to evaluate the quality of life of patients undergoing laser therapy. Methods: A literature review based on a bibliographic search of scientific articles published from 2020 to 2025 in the SciELO and PubMed databases, using keywords in English and Portuguese. Results: From the search, 700 articles were initially found. After applying the exclusion criteria and reading the retrieved studies, 15 articles published between 2020 and 2025 that evaluated laser therapy in the treatment of oral mucositis in oncology patients were selected. The articles evaluating the outcomes of low-level laser therapy demonstrated efficacy in improving quality of life by reducing the severity and frequency of oral mucositis. The studies addressing photobiomodulation in the prevention and treatment of lesions reported analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and tissue regeneration effects. Conclusion: Low-level laser therapy is a safe and effective approach for the prevention and treatment of oncological oral mucositis. It reduces lesion severity and pain, is accessible, and has a good cost-benefit ratio. However, the heterogeneity of current studies prevents the establishment of a universal protocol, making broader and standardized clinical trials necessary to consolidate the ideal application parameters in clinical practice.
