Telenursing in Perioperative Care: A Scoping Review
ABSTRACT Perioperative nursing is a term used to describe the functions and roles of nurses related to the patient’s surgical experience. Surgical procedures are frightening for patients who may be fearful of the operation itself or concerned about the diagnosis, treatment, procedure, postoperative care, and other factors. Telenursing is defined as 'the act of dying delivered through ICT and telecommunications'. Telenursing assesses people remotely and provides appropriate health information, consultation, education, and guidance through empathetic telecommunications. The aim of the study was to determine the extent to which information provision through telenursing is effective in perioperative care. This research method uses a Scoping Review. The literature search process carried out in this literature review uses three main databases; Google Scholar, PubMed and ScienceDirect with a publication year range of 2020-2025. This analysis uses the PRISMA guidelines. A total of 15 full text articles. Then the full text articles were removed according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria into 12 articles and 2 duplicate articles. And the research included in the literature review was 10 articles included in this study. Telenursing has been shown to be effective in reducing pre- and post-operative anxiety, increasing patient satisfaction, shortening hospital stays, and improving patient quality of life. In addition, telenursing also contributes to increasing the knowledge of patients' families, which plays an important role in preventing post-operative complications. Collaborative efforts between healthcare institutions, governments, and technology providers are needed to ensure adequate infrastructure and appropriate training for healthcare workers. With the right policy support, adequate professional training, and supportive technology infrastructure, telenursing has great potential to become an integral part of the healthcare system in the future.
