HUBUNGAN SUPERVISI MANAJERIAL PENGAWAS DAN KINERJA KEPALA SEKOLAH: STUDI PADA SMP NEGERI DI KABUPATEN TUBAN

This study examines the relationship between supervisory managerial supervision and the performance of school principals in the public junior secondary schools of Tuban Regency, a district with only two school supervisors for fifty-two schools. A quantitative correlational design was applied to the entire population of 52 principals through saturated sampling, so the relationship reported here is associative rather than causal. Data were gathered with a closed questionnaire of 28 items measuring managerial supervision and 17 items measuring principal performance on a four-point Likert scale, both validated by an expert and tested empirically. Analysis covered descriptive statistics, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, a linearity test, and Pearson product-moment correlation in IBM SPSS Statistics. Both instruments were reliable, with alpha coefficients of .941 and .894, and all items exceeded the critical value of .273. Managerial supervision reached a mean of 100.60 out of 112 and principal performance 60.31 out of 68, with 84.6 per cent of respondents in the highest category. The correlation was strong, positive, and significant (r = .763; p < .001), with a coefficient of determination of 58.2 per cent. The key finding is that the quality of supervisory contact, not its frequency, carries the strongest association with principal performance, operationalising the external stimuli construct of the nested layers model within the PKKS 2025 framework and implying a need to expand supervisor staffing where ratios remain imbalanced.
