Health Workforce In Ukraine: Resilient Despite Russian Military Aggression?
Following Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, Ukraine's healthcare system faced major population displacements, altered health needs, and worsening working conditions marked by heightened stress and longer hours. Pre-existing structural issues further strain the sector, including a low nurse-to-doctor ratio and physician salaries that remain below the lowest EU nurse wages. Despite civil-military workforce pressures, healthcare professionals demonstrate resilience and find deep purpose in their work, though long-term retention requires a unified national strategy and improved management practices.
