Medico-legal Knowledge and Awareness Among Anaesthesiology and Reanimation Physicians in Türkiye: A Nationwide Survey

Main Points• This nationwide survey demonstrates that anaesthesiology and reanimation physicians in Türkiye have excellent awareness of core clinical responsibilities, but exhibit important deficiencies in organisational and medico-legal responsibilities.• Knowledge gaps were particularly evident regarding operating room management, sterilisation processes, responsibilities for anaesthesia-related equipment, and legal regulations.• Participants' self-perceived medico-legal knowledge did not consistently correspond with their questionnaire-assessed knowledge across several medico-legal domains.• The findings support the integration of structured medico-legal education, documentation standards, and informed consent training into residency curricula and continuing professional development programmes.• Strengthening medico-legal literacy is essential for promoting professional accountability, effective physician-patient communication, and safe anaesthesiology practice.
