Coaxial Hybrid Plasma Turbine with Boron Nitride Piston and Tesla Valve - A Multi-Regime EHD/MHD Propulsion Concept
This work proposes a coaxial hybrid plasma turbine architecture combining Electrohydrodynamic (EHD) and Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) principles. The design uses a 20cm Boron Nitride (BN) piston as dielectric barrier with integrated Tesla valve geometry to prevent backflow, plus a central rotating shaft with linear scanning of outer rings creating virtual helical plasma pistons. The system aims to operate in three regimes: 0-30km (thermal shock/Tesla), 30-80km (EHD), >80km (MHD) with magnetic nozzle converting radial to axial thrust. Preliminary analysis compares to MIT EHD aircraft (0.1-4.5 N/m²) and VASIMR (5000s Isp). DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.23806525
