Clinical versatility of the modified nance appliance: A multifunctional approach in pediatric dentistry – A case series
Space management in pediatric dentistry plays a crucial role in maintaining arch integrity and preventing malocclusion. Conventional appliances often serve a singular function, but the evolution of clinical needs demands multifunctional approaches. This case series presents three variations of the Nance appliance—conventional, modified, and aesthetic—tailored to specific clinical demands in the mixed dentition period. Each design was selected based on individual treatment needs, with emphasis on space maintenance, guidance of erupting teeth, and management of associated functional habits. The modified and aesthetic variations demonstrate the adaptability of the conventional Nance appliance in addressing both functional and patient-centered concerns. Across all cases, the appliances proved effective in preserving arch space, guiding eruption, and simultaneously managing myofunctional disturbances. The series underscores the importance of customizing appliance design to enhance clinical efficiency, optimize outcomes, and improve patient acceptance in modern pediatric practice
