ANALISIS FAKTOR PENYEBAB RENDAHNYA CAPAIAN TKA MATEMATIKA PADA SISWA BERKATEGORI KURANG DI MTS DAN SMP MUHAMMADIYAH KOTA SORONG

This study aims to analyze the factors contributing to low scores on the Mathematics Academic Ability Test (TKA) among students in the “below average” category at Muhammadiyah MTs and SMP in Sorong City, as perceived by mathematics teachers. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with the research subjects being mathematics teachers who teach at the two schools selected using purposive sampling. The research data consisted of secondary data specifically, the results of the Mathematics TKA and primary data specifically, the results of semi-structured interviews. Data validity in this study was ensured through technical triangulation comparing interview findings with documentary data in the form of TKA Mathematics results and source triangulation comparing information from interviews with mathematics teachers at both schools to determine the consistency of findings regarding the factors causing low TKA Mathematics achievement among students in the “below average” category. Data analysis was conducted using an interactive model that included data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the percentage of students in the “below average” category on the Mathematics TKA at MTs Muhammadiyah in Sorong City reached 34%, and at SMP Muhammadiyah in Sorong City, it reached 17%. Based on the interview results, the low scores on the Mathematics Academic Ability Test (TKA) were influenced by several factors, namely weak mastery of basic mathematical skills, low mathematical reasoning ability, gaps in mastery of prerequisite material resulting from distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, and low student motivation in learning mathematics. It is hoped that the results of this study can serve as a basis for evaluation by teachers and schools in designing more effective learning strategies to improve students’ performance on the Mathematics Academic Achievement Test.
