SAE Marriage Theory Paper 0. This record holds the Chinese text and its English edition. The English edition is an independent rewrite of the Chinese text, not a translation; where the two differ, the Chinese governs. This paper is Paper 0 of Marriage Theory: written last, placed first. It lays down no propositions; it only does a few things for those who read this series: it states this series' place in SAE, sets out how far it reads and what its main line is, gives the method and the shared words the papers have in common, interfaces as a whole with several traditions, says once, all together, the directions of colonization read in the papers, lists together the forty-five propositions of the whole series, and registers the remainders that stay unsettled. Marriage Theory is the second branch downstream of SAE Relation Theory, following Love Theory. Relation Theory establishes only the part all relations have; Love Theory reads the part that lies in love, and handed over the stretch in which there are both commitment and institutional protection. Marriage Theory reads only the marriage of two people, and does not claim that other forms are not marriage; what it reads is marriage that carries the 15DD direction, that is, marriage in which both people are headed in the direction of recognizing the other as an end too. This direction is the premise; under this premise, marriage is made up of three things: love, each person's own commitment, institutional endorsement. The main line in one sentence: You are you, I am I, and only then is there an us; we each look beyond ourselves, toward the other, toward someone who has not yet come. The seven papers read, in order: what the marriage this series reads is; "we" and each their own; bringing each other into their own; the long years; preparing for a child; after a third one has come; staying and leaving. This paper interfaces as a whole with Augustine, with Xian and Heng in the Book of Changes, with Li Zhi and with Brake. The directions of colonization read in the papers borrow things that are, or may come to be, in a marriage: endorsement, vows, "we," the household, division of labor, children; some of these are not in every marriage, and are not on that account components of marriage either. These things carry no direction in themselves; the direction is read on the one effect in which they are taken up to do something. Where many things are bound together, the places that can be taken up to slide in the direction of colonization are many too; relations are all mixed, a single sliding is read on that one occasion, and it is not on that account judged that a marriage has exited scope.
