Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis Secondary to Tropical Infections: A Case Series from a Tertiary Care Hospital
Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) can be triggered by various infections, including tropical illnesses like dengue fever and scrub typhus. This series included five children with secondary HLH associated with tropical illnessess. The cohort included three girls and two boys aged 1-13 years. Two cases were associated with dengue fever and three with scrub typhus. All children met at least five of the HLH-2004 diagnostic criteria. The study underscores the importance of considering HLH in children with prolonged febrile illness in endemic regions and highlights the clinical improvement of pulse steroid therapy in such cases.
