Material and Technical Resources and Activities of Units Responsible for Tuberculosis Screening in Russia (2010–2025) Based on Statistical Monitoring Data

Background . Screening for tuberculosis is part of the World Health Organization strategy for the elimination of this disease. However, in Russia, there is a lack of analysis regarding the status of the material and technical infrastructure and the results of tuberculosis detection using radiological methods. Objective : to assess the dynamics of the material and technical base and the activities of radiology units involved in tuberculosis detection using imaging methods. Material and methods. Official statistical data for the Russian Federation as a whole (2010–2025) and for its constituent entities (2012–2025) were analyzed. Results . The availability of operational tuberculosis detection equipment ranges from 0.46 in 2010 to 0.43 in 2025 per 10,000 population, showing a downward trend (p<0.0001). Unlike digital imaging systems, film-based photofluorography machines demonstrate a decrease in equipment workload (p=0.0003). The proportion of equipment with a service life exceeding 10 years decreased during the implementation of national projects and increased in the intervals between them. A strong inverse correlation (r=–0.99) was observed between tuberculosis detection rates via fluorography/radiography and the number of patients aged 15 and older newly registered for dispensary follow-up. Conclusions . A downward trend is observed in the proportion of active tuberculosis detection equipment. While there is currently no need to increase the total inventory of equipment, there is a need for its modernization. A link exists between the implementation of national healthcare projects and a reduction in the proportion of equipment with a service life exceeding 10 years, as well as its variance across the regions of Russia. Tuberculosis detection rates during screenings of individuals aged 15 and older show a strong inverse correlation with the number of newly registered for dispensary follow-up.
