The State and Religion in the Russian Federation in the Context of the 2020 Constitutional Amendments

This article is dedicated to the 2020 constitutional amendments, which incorporated a reference to the belief in God, passed down to the people of Russia by their ancestors, into the text of the Constitution of the Russian Federation. The study is based on a comparative legal analysis of the texts of foreign constitutions, which has made it possible to identify several key models of constitutional regulation regarding the relationship between the state and religion. The authors of the article conclude that the constitutional entrenchment of the foundational values of statehood, including the approach toward religion and God, is a persistent trend in contemporary constitutionalism, reflecting deep historical and cultural roots.
