Landscape of the Vocational Project for Self-Employment and Entrepreneurship Promotion in Ramechhap
Many youths worldwide face challenges securing decent jobs because they lack the essential skills and qualifications. In this context, skill and vocational training are crucial milestones for promoting the development of self-employment and entrepreneurship. Therefore, this study examines the landscape of vocational project, promoting self-employment and entrepreneurship in Ramechhap district. Altogether 752 trainees were included in the study, obtained from the Vocational and Agricultural Training Project, covering the period of January 2023 to December 2024. Similarly, the researcher self-conducted Key Informant Interviews (KII) with two projects management staff. As a result, 56.9 percent of trainees were engaged in the earning sector through their own entrepreneurship and businesses, and the remaining trainees had an unknown status during the reporting period. Also, bivariate results showed significant relationship between vocational & skill training and gender of trainees. Similarly, KII results show that most trainees face low wages, low job priority for fresher hires, a limited job market for human resources training, social misconceptions about female trainees, and a lack of financial investment. Based on the findings, skill and vocational training are not the ultimate solution for obtaining a decent job or achieving self-employment, and further study is needed to explain why a smaller percentage of those with vocational and skills training are employed and self-employed. Additionally, it set the myth that training a skilled workforce will enable them to secure a job and run their own business quickly. Therefore, planners, policymakers, and decision-makers can refer to these findings to inform further planning and policy development in employment generation through technical and vocational training in the local area
