How Digital-Intelligence Integration Enhances Energy Resilience: A Mixed-Methods Study

Against the backdrop of green and low-carbon development and growing risks to energy systems, enhancing energy resilience helps ensure energy security, maintain the stable operation of energy systems, and support their sustainable development. Based on panel data from 30 provinces in China from 2015 to 2023, this study employs a mixed-method approach combining multiple linear regression and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to examine the impact effects and configurational paths of digital-intelligence integration on energy resilience. The results show that (1) compared with digitalization or intelligence alone, digital-intelligence integration significantly enhances energy resilience; (2) digital-intelligence integration can improve energy resilience by promoting dual green innovation and financial development; (3) informal environmental regulation plays a positive moderating role, whereas formal environmental regulation shows no significant moderating effect; and (4) further fsQCA analysis reveals that the improvement of energy resilience depends on the coordinated configuration of multiple factors, and different regions can achieve enhancement through differentiated combinations of conditions. These findings offer empirical evidence and theoretical support for local tailored adoption of digital-intelligence integration to improve energy resilience and promote the sustainable development of energy systems.
