Creativity and Its Related Factors

Creativity is an essential human ability that contributes to intellectual development, innovation, problem-solving, and social progress. In contemporary society, creativity has gained considerable importance in education, science, technology, business, and everyday life. It enables individuals to generate original ideas, explore alternative solutions, and respond effectively to emerging challenges. However, creativity is not determined by a single ability or personality characteristic. It develops through the interaction of psychological, cognitive, social, cultural, and educational factors. The present article examines the concept of creativity and analyses the major factors associated with its development and expression. Particular attention is given to intelligence, divergent thinking, motivation, personality, emotional intelligence, self-efficacy, family environment, peer relationships, cultural influences, educational practices, and institutional climate. The study adopts descriptive approach based on a review of relevant literature. The analysis suggests that creativity is best understood as a multidimensional and context-sensitive phenomenon involving both individual potential and environmental opportunities. Supportive social relationships, intrinsic motivation, intellectual freedom, and learner-centered educational practices can encourage creative expression, whereas excessive control, fear of failure, and rigid assessment practices may restrict it. The article concludes that creativity can be nurtured through appropriate educational experiences, reflective thinking, collaboration, and opportunities for experimentation.
