The influence of okara supplemented with whey and milk on the detoxification of pesticides in Nile tilapia.: Use natural extracts in detoxification of pesticides

The hazards of water pollution with pesticides affect human health, since accumulated derivates could reach the human body through the water or fish as food. Therefore, this research demonstrated the effect of okara supplemented whey and milk on the exposure to three types of pesticides involving chlorpyrifos, cypermethrin, and carbosulfan in the four ages of tilapia fish (Oreochromis niloticus); fry, fingerlings, sub-adult, and adult. It was noted from the outcomes that the pesticide’s accumulation inside fish tissues was in dependent with the exposure time of pesticides, however there was a significant difference between the percentage of pesticide reduction in the four ages of Oreochromis niloticus studied by approximately 50% over the two weeks. Moreover, there was also a large discrepancy in the percentage values of chlorpyrifos and cypermethrin over two weeks compared to carbosulfan, as it was distinguished that the percentage of carbosulfan in adult fish is higher during the second week compared to the other two pesticides. The increase in body weight gain by okara/whey treated groups for the four ages of fish was also significant relative to positive control of pesticides. In summary, the observations can be explained by the fact that fish have a better system for dealing with toxins.
