Helix Slope of the Bi-periodic Fluctuation and the Measurement Correspondence of Electron Spin: From the Rotation of the Helix to the Mott Detection Asymmetry

We describe the phase of a single local field fluctuation by two periodicities, one in the axial direction and one in the circumferential direction, and call this the bi-periodic fluctuation (hereafter, BPF). The phase structure of one BPF unit is represented by a helix wound once on a virtual cylinder, and the shape of the helix is fixed by the helix slope q = p/C, the ratio of pitch to circumference. In the two preceding papers, light was treated as a BPF with q=1. In this paper we set up the structural hypothesis that the helix slope of the electron BPF is q=2, calculate its consequences, and verify them by their consistency with standard theory. We also calculate the detection asymmetry by inserting published experimental values. When the two BPFs are given the same pitch, the length traveled along the circumference, measured on the axial scale, equals the circumferential angle for the photon and half of it for the electron BPF. We set up 'measurement-correspondence hypotheses' that relate this relation to measurement. When a state is rotated externally by an angle α, the whole electron BPF unit rotates by α about the same axis (hypothesis ①, which applies the turning and self-rotation of Paper 2 to the electron BPF), and the angles of the two probability amplitudes change in opposite directions by the value measured on the axial scale, α/q (hypothesis ②). When these hypotheses are interpreted in the language of standard theory, the direction of the state read through the two probability amplitudes rotates by the angle through which the state is rotated if and only if q=2, and this value is the same as that of the structural hypothesis. Rotating the state by one full turn multiplies the probability amplitudes by −1, and according to the standard rotation matrix this value arises regardless of the direction of the rotation axis. If the direction of the state is taken as the direction of the electron BPF axis (hypothesis ③), the −1 when the axis is tilted can also be explained by the motion of the electron BPF. In that case, when one electron BPF unit is moved and its axis is then returned to the initial direction, the phase multiplying the probability amplitude has the form of −1/q times the sum of the angle through which the helix has separately rotated about its own axis (the self-rotation angle) and the solid angle of the turning. Inserting q=1 into the same form, the turning part agrees with the photon turning phase of Paper 2. In the verification stage, we confirm consistency with the spin components ±ħ/2 of Pauli's theory and obtain the measurement probability cos²(γ/2) by the procedure of standard quantum mechanics. Then, by way of the scattering response of Mott polarization measurement, we calculate the left–right detection asymmetry by inserting the published values (effective analyzing power and polarization) of the JLab experiment. This calculation substitutes published values; it is not a comparison of a value independently predicted by the BPF with raw data. This comparison alone cannot single out q=2, and whether this explanation is unique remains an open question. Abstract
