Effect of conventional urea and nano nitrogen on growth and yield of irrigated wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.)

Foliar application of nitrogen either through conventional urea or nano form of nitrogen along with soil application of nitrogen improve nitrogen-use efficiency and also reduce the load of soil application of nitrogenous fertilizer. A field experiment was conducted during three consecutive rabi seasons of 2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25 at college Agronomy Farm, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand to evaluate the effect of foliar application of urea and nano nitrogen on the growth, yield and nutrient status of irrigated wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design with four replications comprising ten nitrogen management treatments involving 100% RDN, 100% RDN + water spray with foliar spray of conventional urea (2 and 4%) and nano nitrogen (2 and 4 mL/L) along with 75 and 50% RDN. Three-year pooled results indicated that application of 100% RDN + water spray recorded significantly higher number of tillers (116.1) and grain yield (5061 kg/ha) but was statistically at par with 100% RDN and 75% RDN fb two foliar sprays of either 4% urea or nano nitrogen 4 mL/L which recorded grain yield of 5036 and 4837 kg/ha, respectively. Nitrogen uptake by grain (93.69 and 93.71 kg/ha, respectively) was observed comparatively higher under 75% RDN fb two foliar sprays of either nano nitrogen 4 mL/L or 4% urea. Thus, application of 75% RDN along with two foliar sprays of either 4% conventional urea or nano nitrogen 4 mL/L at 30-35 DAS and 50-55 DAS was efficient and economically viable nitrogen management strategy for irrigated wheat.
