Smart Emergency Medical Response System: A Real-Time, Location-Aware Doctor Dispatch Platform Using Flutter and Firebase

Emergency care is often delayed because appointment-based systems cannot connect a patient to an available doctor in real time. This paper presents SEMRS, a mobile platform that lets a patient raise a one-tap SOS request and be matched to the nearest verified, online doctors. The patient’s GPS position is captured, and the Haversine distance to every eligible doctor is computed. The three nearest doctors are alerted live, and the first to accept is assigned. Both parties then see each other’s position on an OpenStreetMap view. An admin-verification workflow keeps unverified doctors from receiving requests, supported by a registry lookup that lets the admin cross-check each doctor’s medical registration number. The system uses Flutter and Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore) on the free tier, and Firestore Security Rules enforce single acceptance and the verification gate without any server code. The prototype is evaluated through functional verification and a worked matching example using seeded demo doctors. The results show that the core dispatch loop works on free infrastructure, and the limitations section sets out what must change before real deployment.
