Legumes can enable nitrogen stewardship for tropical grasslands

Nitrogen availability is one of the most immediate constraints on tropical pasture productivity. Here I argue that reliable nitrogen availability can be achieved through deliberate management of the full soil–plant–animal nitrogen cycle, with legumes as part of a sustainable nitrogen architecture.
