Performance of Photosensitive Aromatic and Photo Insensitive Rice Varieties underDouble Transplanting System in Rainfed Lowland Ecosystem of Bangladesh

An experiment was conducted in T. Aman 2020 at Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) Regional Station, Rangpur to evaluate the medium and long duration as well as widely popular photoperiod-sensitive aromatic rice variety under double transplanting condition (DTP). Factor A was varieties (BRRI dhan34, BRRI dhan87, BRRI dhan93 and BRRI dhan95), factor B was planting type (normal transplanting and double transplanting) and factor C was clone/seedling number (1, 2, 3 per hill). Results revealed that, eight (08) seedlings per hill might be optimum in first planting with closer spacing (10 cm × 10 cm) for producing strong, stout and taller seedling for DTP system. Every tested variety produced statistically similar length of panicle both normal transplanting (NTP) and DTP system irrespective of clone/seedling number and planting time. Field duration was slightly shorter in DTP system than NTP at every planting. BRRI dhan34 produced higher yield at 30 August planting both NTP and DTP system. BRRI dhan87 produced highest yield at 10 August planting both NTP and DTP system. BRRI dhan93 produced highest yield at 20 August planting both NTP and DTP system. BRRI dhan95 is capable to produce about 5.40 t ha−1 yield with DTP system up to 30 August planting. As a medium duration variety, BRRI dhan87 is suitable for DTP system up to 10 August planting. One (01) double transplanted seedling appeared enough for producing optimum number of effective tiller and satisfactory grain yield. Bangladesh Agron. J. 2026, 29(1): 43-54

Abstract

An experiment was conducted in T.
