A New Species of the Saucer Bug Genus Idiocarus Montandon, 1897 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Naucoridae) from Mountain Streams in West Papua, Indonesian New Guinea

The saucer bug genus Idiocarus (Naucoridae: Naucorinae: Tanycricini) is endemic to the island of New Guinea and is represented by six species. Diagnostic features by which to identify species include conditions of the profemur, male left paramere, and female subgenital plate. Herein is described Idiocarus clypealis n. sp., which can be recognized by an elongated anteclypeus, tuberculate profemur, shape of the male left paramere, slender golden bristles on the female subgenital plate, and overall body length. The new species is known from eight mountain streams in the Vogelkop Peninsula of West Papua Province, Indonesian New Guinea.
