Empirical Testing of the Universal Magnetic Mechanism in Pt/Co Multilayers

Empirical Testing of the Universal Magnetic Mechanism in Pt/Co MultilayersThis study investigates optical magnetic switching in Pt/Co multilayers through the Universal Thermodynamic Mechanism of Open Systems developed by Leonid Shvets. The analysis applies previously published principles of magnetic impulse interaction, structural coherence, structural resistance, and bidirectional feedback to the experimental findings reported by Khalid et al. (2026).The original experiment demonstrates a transition between helicity-dependent (HD) and helicity-independent (HI) magnetic switching as a function of optical spot size and multilayer configuration. Within the proposed mechanism, this behavior is interpreted through the interaction between the directly excited subsystem S_B1 and the surrounding material subsystem S_B2.Localized polarized optical excitation initiates structural reorganization, internal photon generation, and bidirectional feedback. Coherent coupling and compensating structural resistance contribute to the spatial redistribution and stabilization of the magnetic configuration. The central prospective prediction is:Longitudinal elliptical optical excitation → transverse elliptical magnetic reconfiguration. The predicted major axis of the resulting magnetic domain is oriented approximately 90° relative to the major axis of the optical excitation ellipse:θ_magnetic − θ_optical ≈ 90° (mod 180°)The predicted geometric condition is:D_trans > D_longAn independent experimental verification protocol is proposed using equal-area circular and elliptical optical excitation, controlled polarization, pulse-count-resolved magnetic imaging, rotation controls, and measurements of the magnetic-domain aspect ratio:Q_m(q, n) = D_trans(q, n) / D_long(q, n)The investigation distinguishes the published experimental observations, the proposed causal interpretation, and the prospective geometric prediction. Independent experimental measurements are required to evaluate the prediction and its proposed physical origin. Keywords: Universal Thermodynamic Mechanism of Open Systems; magnetic impulse; Pt/Co multilayers; optical magnetic switching; structural coherence; bidirectional feedback; magnetic-domain reconfiguration; elliptical optical excitation; empirical prediction.
