Personal, Impersonal, atau Nabi?
This article examines the diversity of theological interpretations of the identity of the "Spirit of Truth" in John 14:15-17, a pneumatological text that from the beginning of Christianity has been a locus of doctrinal debate. Through a qualitative approach based on theological-doctrinal literature studies, this study comparatively maps the various approaches that have developed in the Christian and non-Christian traditions, including Trinitarian, Binitarian, Unitarian, Tritheistic, as well as Jewish and Islamic perspectives. The results show that differences in understanding the Spirit of Truth – whether as a divine person, a manifestation of power, a mode of divine presence, or a prophetic figure – is not primarily due to the textual ambiguity of the Gospel of John, but rather to differences in theological and hermeneutical assumptions underlying the reading of the text. By presenting descriptive mapping without normative evaluation, this study contributes to the deepening of John's pneumatological discourse and provides an analytical framework for a more reflective theological and interreligious dialogue.
