FROM FIELD TO FORK TO FUTURE: Why Agriculture and Health Are Two Sides of the Same Coin

“Healthy people need healthy food. Healthy food needs healthy farms. Healthy farms need a healthy planet. It all begins in the soil.” The Invisible Thread On the 7th of April every year, the world pauses to observe World Health Day under the leadership of the World Health Organization (WHO). A few months later, on the 9th of September, World Agriculture Day reminds us of the farmers, fields, and food systems that quietly sustain civilisation. These two occasions are usually celebrated in separate circles — one by doctors and policymakers, the other by agronomists and rural development workers. Yet, if we look carefully, they share an invisible thread: the food we grow determines, in enormous measure, the health we keep.
