Post-February 6, 2023 Earthquake: Psychosocial and Health-Related Coping Strategies Among Displaced Families in Konya

This study examines the post-disaster adaptation and coping strategies of families who migrated to Konya following the February 6, 2023, earthquakes in Türkiye. The research was conducted using a qualitative design based on semi-structured in-depth interviews with 30 participants who had been directly affected by the disaster and subsequently relocated to Konya. The data were analyzed thematically using MAXQDA software. The findings show that migration decisions were largely influenced by kinship networks, perceptions of safety, and expectations of employment opportunities. Participants reported considerable challenges in accessing housing and stable income during the early stages of relocation. Although access to formal governmental assistance was limited, support from relatives, community networks, and non-governmental organizations played a significant role in facilitating adaptation. Psychologically, many participants experienced anxiety, fear, and sleep disturbances during the initial period after the disaster. However, family solidarity, children’s adaptation to school, and re-engagement in economic activities contributed to gradual recovery and resilience. The findings highlight the importance of strengthening accessible psychosocial and community-based support mechanisms for disaster-affected populations.
