Psychosocial Predictors of Hospice and Palliative Care Behavioral Intentions Among Older Hemodialysis Patients
This cross-sectional study investigated predictors of hospice and palliative care (HPC) behavioral intentions among 251 older hemodialysis patients in Taiwan. Hierarchical regression explained 55.0% of the variance. HPC attitudes (β = 0.52) and knowledge (β = 0.19) were the strongest predictors of intentions, alongside prior caregiving experience. Conversely, religious beliefs and marital status negatively predicted intentions. Gerontological social workers should implement culturally sensitive, family-centered interventions that address religious and marital dynamics to foster informed end-of-life decision-making and patient autonomy.
